Breast milk is the best and most complete food for your baby in the first period of their life. It contains everything your baby needs, and is recommended by the World Health Organization as a sole food until 6 months of life. However, there may be situations where a mother needs to use pumped breast milk or formula, such as when a baby has difficulty latching on the breast or when a mother has to go back to work. In these cases here are some tips for bottle feeding.
THE DIFFERENT TYPES: THE ANTI-COLIC BOTTLE - WHICH MODE TO CHOSE? WHAT ARE THE FEATURES TO CONSIDER?
First of all, you need to focus on the characteristics that make a bottle anti-colic. Normally, these models have valves that allow air to enter the bottle and thus fill the space left by the milk: these systems prevent the creation of a vacuum inside the bottle, reduce interruptions during feeding and thus prevent the ingestion of air in the tummy.
CHICCO P5, THE ANTI-COLIC BOTTLE REVOLUTION
In order to ensure an even more natural feeding experience and greater well-being both during and after feeding, the system should work gradually as the rhythm and intensity of sucking varies from baby to baby, from feed to feed and from moment to moment. That’s why Chicco has developed the P5 feeding bottle, a revolution among anti-colic feeding bottles. Thanks to its innovative intui-flow-system, it immediately and continuously adapts to the sucking rhythm, thus ensuring smooth feeding, without interruptions, countering the development of colics and reducing episodes of regurgitation.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT POSITION
The choice of the right place and position is also important when for bottle feeding. The environment must be calm and relaxed, and little ones must be able to feel mama's touch and vicinity, even when not latching directly onto the breast. Feeding time evokes a wonderful combination of emotions - a sense of communication, love and tenderness that doesn't have to be sacrificed. We recommend putting your arm around the baby, making sure that the baby is in a semi-seated position with the head resting inside your folded elbow and slightly raised compared to the rest of the body. It is also advisable to keep the bottle always tilted, so that the teat is always full of milk.
HOW TO WASH AND STERILISE THE BOTTLE
Hygiene ad cleaning are always crucial. Each time after feeding, wash and sterilise each of its parts. Models with unscrewable bottom make it easier to wash out any residual milk.
